Our student companies participate in a variety of fun, educational, and competitive events throughout the year.
Fall Show –This will include performances by our Youth, Junior I, Junior II, Senior Company and a special guest performance by our in-house professional group, the Fuerta Dance Company. Our goal is to give our company dancers more stage time and pre-professional experience with concert-style dance. The dress rehearsal (4:00-6:00PM) and show (7:00PM start) will take place on Saturday, September 22nd.
Convention – This seasonwe will be taking our dancers to a dance class convention, hosted by the prestigious Platinum Dance Competition. This includes a day of dance classes in a variety of styles, taught at the convention site in Atlanta by industry professionals from across the country. This is an excellent opportunity for dancers to learn from new teachers and artists, as well as connect with other Atlanta dancers and studios.
Holiday Show – Our company dancers are a highlight of our Holiday Show, “Home for the Holidays.” Company dancers receive special character roles and learn additional dances in their company class time. Cast lists will be posted October 1st. The dress rehearsal will be Thursday, December 13thand Friday December 14thfrom 4-10PM, with two performances on Saturday, December 15th at 2PM and 6PM.
Competition – We will be competing in two competitions this year! Applause Talent Competition the weekend of March 29-31 and KAR Dance Competition May 3-5. We do not receive a schedule from the dance competitions until a few weeks prior, so all company dancers must keep the entire weekend available for these two events. A mandatory final rehearsal will be held Friday, March 22ndfrom 4-10PM. Our dancers will be rehearsing their dances during company class time throughout the year, and working with some of our talented DHDC choreographers.
Recital – Our spring recital will be held at St. Pius High School. The dress rehearsal will be Friday, May 23rdand 24thfrom 4 -10PM, with two performances on Saturday, May 25that 2PM and 6PM. Company dancers perform their class recital dances as well as all of their competition dances in our spring recital.
Sleepovers – Company dancers get to attend two studio sleepovers each school year. We review and clean dances for upcoming performances, as well as play fun company bonding games and activities.Our sleepovers will be November 30thand May 10th. The sleepovers start at 5PM with a potluck style dinner. Youth Company dancers should be picked up at 8PM. Junior I Company dancers should be picked up at 11PM. Junior II and Senior Company dancers may spend the night at the studio (chaperoned by DHDC teachers) and be picked up at 9AM the following morning.
Summer Intensives - Company dancers in Youth, Junior I, and Junior II company are required to attend a minimum of one summer intensive. Senior I and Senior II company dancers are required to attend a minimum of two summer intensives.
